What is Painted Phalanges?

Painted Phalanges polishes are made by me, Angie Willie, at my home in Idaho. They are (at least) 5 free, vegan, and cruelty free. Due to the nature of small-batch manufacturing, there may be small variations between batches. Every effort is being made to keep each batch uniform.

 

These polishes have been worn repeatedly and have not caused any visible staining (or it is noted in the polish listing). Each person is different and all pigments have the possibility of staining so your experience may not be the same. I always recommend 1-2 coats of a good base coat and a good top coat. Where did Painted Phalanges get its name?

My little brother called me Phalange from the time he knew what phalanges were. Painted Phalanges seemed like a perfect fit when we were picking a name for the business.

 

Why is your logo a skeleton hand?

The logo naturally came together as the name of the business did. My birthday is on Halloween and I have a job in healthcare (Medical Lab Scientist/Microbiologist) so using a skeleton hand that looks like an X-ray was perfect and a fun personal addition for me.

Why did Painted Phalanges take a break, not release new nail polish, and pause the website?

Painted Phalanges was doing very well, which seems like a problem anyone would want to have. However, it was still no where near being able to replace my full time job. I have 6 grown children, 7 grandchildren and a full-time job as a Medical Microbiologist. The challenges of a thriving sole proprietor business meant that I was not able to spend much with my family, and certainly not the amount I wanted to.

I decided it was worth it to put Painted Phalanges on hold so I could concentrate on my family and rebalance my life. I never completely shut down the website because I always knew  I would open Painted Phalanges again. I love this business and the nail community too much to walk away completely. I reopened Painted Phalanges with new plans in place that would allow me to still have balance in my work and personal life. I’m so glad to be back!

Why do some of your swatch pictures not have a photo credit?

One of the overwhelming challenges that I faced before I took a break from Painted Phalanges was preparing all of the products and information to send out to swatchers. The swatchers I worked with were amazing but getting the packages ready to send meant I had to have the collection ready to release 3 weeks before the actual website release. I often had the new polish colors ready to go before that, but I didn’t always have time for the added prep. When I decided to re-open Painted Phalanges, my goal was to make everything as mellow and streamlined as possible to help maintain my life/work balance.

I was steered to the Aleana website and it seemed like a great fit for me. Aleana's silicone practice hands are hand-painted and very realistic looking. I know you may be thinking of the very cheap practice hands that you can pick up on your go-to shopping website and I assure you these are not the same. Aleana started out making prosthetics before they transitioned to the silicone practice hand market. Aleana carries a range of natural skin tones and I currently own 1 full hand, 2 half hands in 3 skin tones and I hope to add more.
